Professional Background & Experience

Gustavo Alcantar is the principal visionary behind the Swirlspace entity. He had worked in the SF design industry for several years before taking a monumental backpacking trip thru South America for 19 months in 1997. Upon his return to U.S. soil, he knew he was not capable of being just another cog in the machine. In 1998 he envisioned a creative studio which was not limited to one specialized pursuit. Rather, he thought that a diverse range of offerings would attract more dynamic clientele and challenge his curious creative spirit.

His background in formal graphic design (Cal-Poly SLO '92) morphed with his social interests to create Swirlspace Conscious Hempwear and opened a whole new universe as he intertwined with the blossoming SF/Bay Area Sustainability movement. Swirlspace is an active leader within this business/social sector and is one of the co-founders of SFUAS, SF Urban Alliance for Sustainability. Swirlspace has participated in and been directly involved in many local events, festivals and happenings including EarthDance, We the Planet, and SF GreenFestival.
